Philanthropy

Every member of the Bertarelli family is conscious of the opportunities that their fortunate position gives them to invest time, energy and wealth into activities that can make a difference to those in less privileged situations.

The Bertarelli Foundation was established in 1999 to promote research and development in the field of infertility. In 2008 it was expanded to include all the family’s philanthropic initiatives covering life sciences, environment, education, culture, children and sport.

Some projects recently sponsored by the Bertarelli Foundation have been:

- the research Centre for Neuroprosthetics at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)

- the partnership with the British government for the creation of the world's largest Marine Reserve in Chagos, in the Indian Ocean

- the joint research and education programme in neuroscience between Harvard Medical School and EPFL

- the Alinghi Swiss Sailing Grants in partnership with the Swiss Sailing Federation

- the Henna Pre-School in South Africa
